The Verdict
Best for

Solo creators and small teams who want one connected place to plan posts, store scripts and ideas, and document workflows, and who are fine on the free plan.

Not for

Anyone whose main reason to pay is Notion's AI, since full AI sits behind the Business tier and a standalone AI tool is usually cheaper.

For organizing what you make and when you post it, this is hard to beat, and most solo creators never need to pay. Pass on the upper tiers if your only reason to upgrade is the AI, because Notion moved real AI behind Business and there are cheaper standalone AI tools.

Overview

Notion is the workspace creators use to run the back end of their content: a posting calendar, an idea bank, a script and asset database, and the SOPs you hand to an editor or VA. Instead of scattering plans across notes, sheets, and docs, you build one linked system. For a solo creator the free plan handles all of this. The catch is that meaningful AI now lives on the paid Business tier.

Pros

  • The free plan covers a solo creator: unlimited pages and blocks, content calendars, and databases at no cost.
  • One linked system replaces a pile of separate notes, sheets, and docs for planning and SOPs.
  • Synced databases (on paid plans) turn your calendar, ideas, and scripts into one connected operation.
  • Flexible enough to be a wiki, planner, and database at once, which fits how creators actually work.
  • Used at huge scale (100M+ users), so templates and community resources are everywhere.

Cons

  • Real AI (AI Agents, Ask Notion, AI Meeting Notes) now requires the Business tier, since the standalone AI add-on was retired in 2025, so solo users cannot just buy the AI.
  • Notion AI does not manage your email or calendar, so it is not a full assistant.
  • The free plan's 5 MB file-upload cap fills fast with PDFs and screenshots, and history is limited to 7 days.

Features

  • Content calendar
  • AI writing assistant
  • Database views
  • Team collaboration
  • API integrations

Free is the headline for creators and covers solo planning indefinitely. Plus is the step up for small teams that have outgrown the free collaboration limits. The important shift in 2025/2026: meaningful AI is no longer a cheap add-on, it is bundled into Business, so the AI upgrade is a bigger jump than it used to be.
